High-Speed Roll-Up Doors

High-Speed Roll-Up Doors.
Cold Storage, Shut.

These are high-speed roll-up doors, fabric and rigid. They open in seconds and shut just as fast, at forklift lanes, dock openings and freezer corridors. The door stays open only as long as it takes to get through.

High-Speed Roll-Up Doors

The Door That Never Gets Propped Open.

Put a high-speed roll-up door at the openings nobody has time for. A swing door in a forklift lane gets hit, then gets tied back, and cold pours out of the room all shift. A high-speed door — the trade calls it a rapid-roll — opens and shuts itself in seconds instead.

Sized to Your Traffic. Hung to Seal.

Speed is the easy part. The hard part is keeping a tight seal at the frame while the door opens and closes a few hundred times a day. That’s the part people get wrong when picking a door.

Doors that open and close in seconds, for lanes too busy for a swing door

Fabric torn, motor down, or the door not opening and closing right? That’s a service call: cold storage door repair. If the opening needs a motor instead of speed, we hang automatic sliders and bi-parting doors. If it just needs the air slowed down, we hang PVC strip curtains.

Project

Roll-Up Doors in 55,000 Square Feet of Cold Storage.

DCW Casing · Fair Lawn, NJ

Where the Traffic Actually Goes.

About 55,000 square feet of cold storage built inside an existing building. The high-speed doors sit on the paths that get used all day. RSNE-built swing doors and traffic doors cover the openings that don’t.

The third is a service call on a Rytec door. We work on high-speed doors from every major maker, on doors we hung and doors we didn’t.

FAQ

High-speed roll-up doors, cold storage: questions we get asked.

Where does a high-speed door make sense?
Any opening with constant traffic between temperature zones — forklift lanes, dock doors, doorways between rooms. If a door keeps getting propped open because it’s in the way, put a high-speed door there instead.
Which brands do you install?
The high-speed doors we install and service most are Jamison, Rytec, Rite-Hite, Dynaco and Hörmann, in that order. We work on all power and manual cold storage doors, no matter who built them, and we’ll pick the right door for your traffic, your temperature and your opening.
What happens when a forklift hits it?
Fabric high-speed doors are built for that. A bar across the bottom of the door pops free when something hits it, and goes back in without a service call. That’s the door we hang in a busy forklift lane.
Do they hold up in a freezer?
Yes, with the right fabric, plus a defrost package that stops frost from freezing the door shut. Standard fabric gets stiff, and frost builds up at the frame until the door stops sealing. Freezer-rated doors are built to keep opening and closing in that cold air.
What does a high-speed door cost?
Size, speed and freezer rating all change the price, so we don’t publish one. Call us and we’ll give you a budget quote over the phone.
Where do you install and service high-speed doors?
We cover all of New England and New York from our shop in Lakeville, MA. Major projects take us nationwide — the DCW Casing job was in New Jersey.

Speed, or a Door That Seals?

Not every busy opening needs a high-speed door, and a door at the end of its life is a different question. Read our guide on whether to repair or replace a walk-in cooler.
